IPL treatment can individually address a variety of skin imperfections and significantly improve its appearance.

The treatment is applied in 2 or 3 sessions separated by about 30 days between them.

The treatment is performed on an outpatient basis and personal and work life can be resumed immediately.

What does the treatment consist of?

IPL therapy consists of the controlled application of high-intensity light with a specific pulse frequency to treat and improve the appearance of the skin.

It allows treating different imperfections, such as spots, hyperpigmentation, vascular spiders, fine wrinkles, rosacea or acne in a personalized way and adapting to the patient’s skin type. In addition, it helps stimulate collagen production, which considerably improves the appearance and texture of the treated area.

IPL treatment helps to improve the appearance of the skin in a non-aggressive way.

In what cases is it indicated?

IPL treatment allows to treat skin imperfections, such as:

  • Pigmented spots
  • Expression wrinkles
  • Rosacea
  • Acne or acne marks
  • Dilations and vascular alterations

Intense pulsed light emits a broad band of light that can be adjusted through filters to treat multiple targets at once and improve skin quality overall.

Prior to carrying out the treatment, an informative visit is scheduled in which the skin and the area to be treated are assessed, as well as the expectations and the approximate sessions that will be needed.

The results

The results can be seen from the first session and improve progressively. Each session lasts about 15-30 minutes, and the number of sessions will depend on the person and the desired result, although in most cases two or three sessions will be held, separated by 30 days between them.

In cases where the specialist deems it appropriate, IPL treatment can be combined with other techniques, such as microneedling, botulinum toxin injections or even blepharoplasty or eyelid surgery.

The results can be seen from the first session and improve progressively.

Before carrying out the treatment, the specialist will remove any remaining makeup or creams that the patient may be wearing. During the treatment, the patient must use eye protectors so that the light from the machine does not damage their eyesight and the specialist who performs the treatment will wear dark glasses.

IPL treatment is usually not painful, although some “whipping” may be noticeable. It does not require any type of anesthesia, however, before starting the treatment, the specialist will apply a cold gel on the area to protect the patient’s skin and to facilitate the correct transmission of the laser light.

The session is carried out in an ophthalmological consultation and usually lasts about 30 minutes, depending on the area to be treated. At the end of the session, the patient can resume their usual activities, taking the precaution of applying sun cream to the treated area during the following weeks.

IPL treatment is painless and does not require any type of anesthesia.

Subsequent recommendations

After the treatment, a slight redness may appear, so it is recommended to use a moisturizer daily, as well as to avoid the sun as much as possible. It will be necessary to use sunscreen for at least a month after treatment.

Likewise, it is recommended not to carry out other aesthetic medical procedures in the treated area (and in general on the entire face) during the duration of the treatment and for up to 4 weeks afterwards, since the skin is especially sensitive.

After the treatment it is recommended to avoid direct exposure to the sun and use sun cream.

Subsequent recommendations

After the treatment, the doctor will give you some indications and recommendations.
