Dr Duch and Dr Pedrell will take part in a round table organized by Alcon on New trends in multifocal surgery

A round table organized by Alcon, the medical equipment company, will be held in Barcelona on May 12th. The aim of the round table will be to analyse new trends in multifocal procedure for cataract surgery.

Dr Francesc Duch, Head of Institut Català de Retina Refractive Surgery Department, and Dr Josep Mª Pedrell, Head of the Cataract Department of this centre will take part in the experts’ panel who will meet to debate this subject and share and comment the results obtained using new technologies applied to multifocal procedure.

The event will begin with two short presentations. The first one will be about the current situation of multifocal surgery in the Iberian Peninsula, and the second one will address the new generation of trifocal lenses and the clinical outcomes achieved with AcrySof® IQ PanOptix®.

Later on, the round table dealing with indication criteria for multifocal lenses will take place. Dr Duch, who will act as the event coordinator, will chair the round table, and Dr Pedrell will take part as a speaker in the experts’ panel.

Cataract surgery is a very common surgical procedure in ophthalmology, and Spain is a reference country in this type of surgery.

Nowadays, most people suffering from cataracts can undergo a surgical procedure consisting in the extraction of the affected crystalline lens and the replacement of such lens by an intraocular lens. Moreover, thanks to the latest developments in intraocular lenses, it is possible to correct refractive errors to a large extent during the same intervention.
