World Glaucoma Day is celebrated on March 12th and it marks the start of World Glaucoma Week, a collaborative project between World Glaucoma Association and World Glaucoma Patient Association .
Dr. Agnieszka Dyrda, member of the ICR’s Department of Retina and Vitreous and Cataract Department, has participated together with Dr. Alfonso Antón and Dr. Alícia Gómez in a multicenter study recently published in the prestigious British Journal of Ophthalmology.
Glaucoma is a disease of the optic nerve characterized by a loss of the vision field and is usually asymptomatic, making early detection and treatment difficult. To raise awareness of this disease and the importance of detecting it in time, we share 10 important details about glaucoma.
Dr. Navero participated as an expert in the roundtable “Clinical cases of glaucoma surgery. Which technique to choose?”, in which he discussed different clinical cases and the best way to treat them.
Dr. Navero gave different presentations, including one on how to improve the technique of trabeculectomy and one on MIGS plus via conjunctival and MPFG Xen. Dr. Alfonso Antón gave a master class in which he shared the basis of research in glaucoma and recommendations on how to get started.
The project has allowed the development of a telemedicine tool and an algorithm based on Artificial Intelligence that would facilitate the automatic detection of signs of glaucoma from retinographies (fundus images).
